Pressure vessel, fitting and piping designs used in Alberta are registered with the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA). We prepare the package, have it reviewed and stamped by a Canadian P.Eng., and submit it.

- To be eligible for use in Alberta, a CRN must carry the digit 2, or the letter C, somewhere after the decimal point.
- Alberta is not a party to the CRN Reconciliation Agreement (in force since January 1, 2020).
- For designs needed across Canada, ABSA runs a National Registration Process.

Pressure equipment designs used in Alberta are registered with the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA).
Alberta’s code is 2. It appears after the decimal point of a CRN once the design is registered in Alberta: first if Alberta registered it first, later in the order the provinces signed off.
Yes. A design must be registered in each province or territory where the equipment is used. Alberta is not a party to the national CRN Reconciliation Agreement that took effect on January 1, 2020. Once Alberta registers it, the code 2 is added to the CRN.
